Clara Bows interview for the Hobbs Best of Bristol Show

Its manic here, honestly……. let me set the scene, even those around me are bewildered, I’m a whirling dervish, a hurricane but being in the eye of the storm I have a sense of calm, between me and you though I’m feeling a little anxious right now!  I have a ‘list’ book now by the bed, multiple lists that stretch weeks ahead and it keeps me sane, between huge hires, talks, photo shoots and last minute tweaking of hats for the Hobbs Best of Bristol Show, not to mention a minor panic about dresses (breathe Vicky breathe!) and a backdrop conundrum I was interviewed by a fella called Dan for BBC Radio Bristol last Friday about the fashion show and it was aired this morning.  Amidst the chaos here I actually missed listening to it (was not on my list damn it), I was too busy preparing for a talk I was giving about my businesses Clara Bows Millinery and Vintage Tea Sets which I gave this afternoon to a wonderful bunch of ladies in Bristol.

My interview is here if you’d like to listen, I could not stop laughing during the interview (any minute there will be a knock at the door I know it)….click on Graham Torrington and then  http://beta.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio/bbc_radio_bristol/20100614 and fast forward to 2.34.

Now I’m off to the Harmony Mega Yacht in Bristol Harbour to set up for an enormous photo shoot tomorrow, I cannot believe the scale of this, over 30 photographers….I’m working with Rosie Parsons of the Photography Parlour.  Its going to be great, lots of models, fab dresses, make up and hair……..I’ll be blogging about it in the forthcoming weeks.

Mad Hatter themed fascinator workshop at Bake-a-Boo photographed by Rosie Parsons

Last Sunday Rosie Parsons (photographer extraordinaire) and I embarked on a road trip to the big smoke from our comfy west country burrows, one that would merge her Birthday celebrations with a fascinator workshop I was hosting at the stunning little teashop run by Zoe called Bake-a-Boo (I’d been itching to meet this vixen after a mutual appreciation of vintage china and cake).

Meet the beautiful Zoe, making us a steaming hot vintage teapot of darjeeling on our arrival.

‘The Clara Bows head’ complete with an example fascinator I made the day before for some inspiration was placed on the beautifully laid table that the workshop ladies would be seated, and I set about laying out all the materials before they arrived.

Then the workshop commenced.

We paused for an Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea…..

Before resuming work again and completing these lovely creations.  Here’s a picture of the hen party that took part modelling their pieces.

A lovely time was had by all.  If you’d like to take part in one of these workshops or would like one arranged, see my millinary website Clara Bows for more details or email me (Vicky) at info@clarabows.co.uk

Fascinator Workshops, Afternoon Teas on Harmony II Yacht

Yet more fantastic news folks.  I’ll be running regular fascinator workshops on the ‘Harmony 2‘ a 189ft luxury mega-yacht moored in Bristol Harbour, not only that but will be offering hen & birthday party packages (you get the venue exclusively). Its just down river from the SS Great Britain but bang in the centre of the city, a perfect and very unique base to explore the city after having a fun day of activities.

You can stay overnight in the luxury cabins, take part in the many workshops throughout the day, from fascinators, bouquet making, cup cake topping and finally some nautical boudoir! Enjoy a slap up afternoon tea on gorgeous vintage china, relax in the hot tub before leisurely wandering to the many bars and restaurants on your doorstep.   More details will be published soon, including details on the very talented individuals who will make up the very special workshop crew.

Vintage Tea Sets, Alice in Wonderland and the Sanderson Hotel

Well folks, My Vintage Tea Sets cake stands will regularly be making an appearance (up to 50 times a day!) at the fabulously trendy and ultra lavish Sanderson Hotel, take a look at the hotels website and you can see exactly why it was chosen for the world premiere aftershow party for all the cast!  (I’m still so very chuffed that my cake stands were used for that party and have been used by Royalty and Johnny Depp!  eek).

Meantime, here’s the press release for the amazing afternoon tea at the Sanderson thats being served on Vintage Tea Sets cake stands.  Not bad eh?

Take a trip down the rabbit hole and try the Mad Hatters afternoon tea at Sanderson for an unusual culinary experience that keeps on getting curiouser and curiouser.

Eat me
Featuring pineapple lollipops that turn your mouth from cold to hot and multicoloured finger sandwiches, this Alice in Wonderland inspired tea is for those who love to play with their food. Other highlights of the quirky Mad Hatters afternoon tea at Sanderson include a Queen of Hearts teacake that melts in your mouth as soon as you bite into its strawberry and white chocolate shell, and exploding mint chocolate chip ice cream lollipops.

Colourful finger sandwiches
In keeping with the eccentric theme, the finger sandwiches in the Mad Hatters afternoon tea at Sanderson come in a variety of bright colours. Nibble on ham and English mustard sandwiches served on yellow saffron bread, or smoked salmon and cream cheese on green spinach bread.

Fairytale tea
No tea would be complete without a selection of cakes and sweet treats, and the Mad Hatters afternoon tea comes complete with a hazelnut and passion fruit tart topped with the White Rabbit’s pocket watch, as well as a chocolate crackle cupcake surprise. Traditional scones with lashings of clotted cream and jam are also part of the afternoon tea.

The Mad Hatters afternoon tea at Sanderson is available daily from 2.30pm – 5.30pm throughout March 2010. The tea is served in the Courtyard Garden at the hotel.

The standard tea costs £20.00 per person, and is also available with a glass of Veuve Cliquot Champagne for £26.00. For more information and to make a reservation, call 0207 300 1444

Clara Bows Fascinator Workshop photographed by Rosie Parsons

The gorgeous Rosie Parsons popped up to see me earlier in the week with her camera! after a lovely catch up at Bocca Bar she came with me to a ‘Mad Hatter’ themed fascinator workshop I was hosting at Caffe Clifton and took some snaps to go in my beautiful millinery website Clara Bows that both she and her husband Lee created for me.

It was a really lovely relaxed evening and the ladies that attended made some really beautiful things, two even vowed to wear their creations into work the next day!  I so hope they did.  Anyway, as they say, a picture can tell a thousand words and as usual Rosie has done me so incredibly proud, I cherish these images and can’t wait for our ‘road trip’ in just over a weeks time!
